Why is OptiSeat the best approach?A successful trainee allocation ensures fair seat assignments that align with trainee preferences and business needs. There are three main approaches: Starting from a blank sheet of paper: You allocate seats individually or in small groups based on preferences, then revisit and adjust as needed. This is common but inefficient for larger cohorts, prone to bias, and makes it hard to determine if a better allocation was possible. In particular, early decisions such as which seat/trainee you start with has a significant impact on the final results. Rules-Based Decision Making: You apply set rules or algorithms to guide the process. It's faster but no set of rules can ever take into account the full breadth and nuance of human experience, and so blindly following an algorithm can lead to unfair and unexpected consequences. Furthermore, any set of rules allows the possibility of trainees gaming the system for personal benefit. OptiSeat: Trainees are initially assigned based on maximising overall happiness without bias. Adjustments are made by your team, supported by the platform to foresee the consequences of every decision. This method combines optimal algorithms with human expertise, ensuring the best outcome for all. Can OptiSeat be adapted to our unique needs?We understand that additional factors (such as previous seat allocations) are important and you may like other additional factors to be taken into account when determining the fairest initial allocation. OptiSeat is flexible and we are able to incorporate these additional factors for you. We do this through advanced mathematical modelling rather than a simple rules based approach, allowing us to avoid the risk of some individuals gaming a system.

Can we do a test run of OptiSeat?Yes. If you would like to do a test run first, we can offer you our OptiSeat Lite option. With OptiSeat Lite we have an initial set up session where we run through your process and any additional factors that you would like to be incorporated. You then simply provide anonymised trainee preference data and we will return to you (within 48 hours) the initial optimal output that OptiSeat would produce. In addition we will arrange for you to see how the platform assists your Early Careers team when then are looking at each individual trainee allocation. You can make changes to the optimal allocation and we can show you how these changes affect others.
